To What Kind of Music Do You Exercise?

Is there a scientifically proven “best” kind of music to workout to? Is rock better than rap? What about fast-bumping house music?

Music to workout
The most effective workout music touches you personally.

There is a perfect workout music, but it’s not really a question of genre. Rather, in order for you to motivate yourself, the most effective workout music touches you personally—such as, say, the theme from your all-time favorite action movie.

Of course, you can’t go wrong cranking up a playlist of “fast, loud, rhythmical, percussive, bass-driven music. It’s particularly good for motivating yourself before a weight-training session.

Selecting the right beat is important; for a cardio exercise, 134-136bpm is recommended. Try listening to Pitbull’s “Feel This Moment” (130-140bpm). And go for upbeat lyrics, too.

The golden rule is to listen to the music that makes you energetic and motivated and gives you the feeling you can do everything.
