Mice With Human Brain Cells

Mice With Human Brain Cells

There’s a lab full of mice that have been genetically engineered to have human brain cells, which make them obviously smarter than other lab mice, and any other lab animal.

Researchers at New York’s U. of Rochester Medical Center who carried out the study, expressed in The Journal of Neuroscience, hope these humanized mice will give them better insight into human diseases like cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s.

However, putting human cells into animal brains is challenging ethical standards, forcing researchers and ethicists to ask if the rights of these ‘uplifted animals’ have to be clarified.
