UK’s Top Hill Walks: Dartmoor

Hike in Dartmoor, North to South Devon

35 miles/2 days

A hike of two parts – the northern half is a plain tor-studded wasteland, while the southern half is an intimate warren of lifeless villages and ancient ways – everyone should experience Dartmoor at least once in their lifetime. You need to dodge a number of hurdles to make the best of it (military firing ranges, frequent mist, vague paths, and the everpresent spectre of strong Devon ale) but you’ll always remember it. The way across usually goes from Okehampton to Ivybridge, but you can also start in Lydford, tor-hopping over the high moor with an overnight at Princetown.
