UK’s Top Hill Walks: The Trotternish Ridge

The Trotternish Ridge

The Trotternish Ridge, Skye

23 miles/18 hours

The allure of Skye hangs thick at its northern end, where this spear-straight slope runs parallel with the Atlantic shoreline. Deemed amazing enough to have made it into Ridley Scott’s sci-fi fantasy Prometheus, romantic fantasy Stardust and historical fantasy Highlander, the hike traversing the ridge south to north from Portree tests the calfs, but it’s ceaselessly fascinating. The Storr pinnacles and the watchful Cuillin Ridge accompany you along the way and the Quiraing – a spiky ball of steeples and plateaus – ends the walk in dramatic style.
