UK’s Top Road Rides: Ride London

Even though it was cut short last year to only 86 miles because of treacherous weather conditions, Ride London event allows enthusiasts to ride a similar route to the pros – the day after the race of professionals.

Surrey’s Box Hill is without doubt one of the highlights, and although its average gradient is a claimed 4.9%, it’s still an effort and includes some sharp ramps and testing switchbacks.

The pro teams will ride over the climb with legs wearied by the preceding ascent of Leith Hill, on in the direction of the Surrey suburbia of Leatherhead and beyond, concluding with a bunch sprint on The Mall. Putting your hands aloft when you complete the 100-mile route is close to obligatory.

This year’s event: 2nd August 2015
