Tour of Wessex is a three-day trip, and it’s a brute! The entire triple-header has 335 miles of cycling and includes some of the south-west’s most stunning climbs.
Cheddar Gorge and Porlock Toll Road are undoubtedly the ones to watch, the former because of its relentless ascent and the latter for its coach-driver-worrying gradient. Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon are all covered, and all three stages start and finish in Somerton, so there’s no need to cart your belongings half-way across the county each day.
Of course, you can do just one day, or two, but where’s then the real life-affirming challenge?
