What’s the Role of Insulin?

insulin in our body

Do you know what is the role of insulin plays in our body? Let’s take a brief look at its main functions.

Insulin helps to control blood glucose levels by signalling the liver, fat and muscle cells to absorb glucose from the blood, where it’s either used for producing energy, or stored to fulfill energy requirements in the future.

If the body has enough energy, insulin signals the liver to absorb glucose and store it as glycogen. When liver and muscle cell glycogen stores are full, any excess glucose is stored in fat cells. This is when we start gaining weight.
