The Course des cinq 4000, as it’s also called, is Europe’s oldest mountain race of its category and draws not only the greatest trail runners on the planet, but also people who that simply love a trail with a view; the honey pots are the five 4000m peaks, including the Matterhorn.
The route starts in the Swiss town of Sierre. The first half of the 31km course is all uphill – be ready for an ascent of 2200m. Tthe cheerful and friendly support from the locals will encourage you to cross the finish line, where you can expect a reception worthy of a king.
