What Actually Is Exercise?

Exercise is any activity that involves physical exertion, gentle or intense. Various kinds of exercise challenge your body in different ways to keep you feeling and looking your very best throughout life—and who doesn’t want that?

With different types of workout, you can become the fittest and healthiest you’ve ever been.

With different types of exercise, you can become the fittest and healthiest you’ve ever been, and have a beautiful, sculpted body, too.

Active vs sedentary way of life

In days passed by, when people farmed their own lands and did their daily duties by hand, the physical nature of their lives meant there was no need for extra exercise in order to keep their weight down and their bodies healthy. Day-to-day life in our modern society of convenience and technology, on the other hand, is usually comparatively sedentary, with us spending more and more time sitting—whether in cars, on trains, at desks and computers, or on a couch watching TV—which can leave us feeling unfit and out of shape.

Types of exercise

It’s important to combine three different types of exercise to be able to achieve a healthy, balanced body:

• cardiovascular—for the health of your heart

• strength and endurance—for muscle efficiency

• flexibility—for the mobility of your joints and muscles.

There’s a wide range of exercising options that cater for all fitness levels and tastes.

And there’s no need to worry if you’re not an athletic type. There’s a wide range of exercising options that cater for all fitness levels and tastes, from gentle walks, rejuvenating swims, nourishing stretches, and relaxing yoga postures to invigorating cycles, difficult runs, energizing dance steps, strengthening resistance exercises, and strong pilates moves.

After all, the major function of doing regular exercise is to be as fit as possible for the demands of everyday life. If you want to improve your performance in a particular sport, great. But wanting simply to have more energy for your children, tone up before your summer, or feel more confident in your skinny jeans are also great reasons to exercise.
